History

The South Africa lottery was launched in March, 2000. More than 800,000 tickets were sold on the first day.

October 2001. The Wednesday draw was introduced.

November 2003, Lotto Plus was added to the game.

April 2007 saw the South Africa National Lottery suspended when the operating license expired. It was not renewed due to a court judgement of conflicts of interest on the part of the shareholders of the original operator, Uthingo.

October 2007, the National Lottery was restarted after Gidani was awarded the license. Such was the eagerness of South Africans to see their lotto re-launched, that more than 200,000 tickets were sold within the first few hours.

October 2009. The South Africa Lotto Powerball was introduced to offer higher jackpots and more ways of winning.
